So a certain little boy turned 5 last week and asked MONTHS ago for a batman party. And because he is my son he didn’t just want a generic run of the mill batman party, he wanted only black and yellow batman. Dude has issues. HA! I had to think pretty hard on this one because cartoon characters aren’t exactly my idea of a good time, but the more I planned the more excited I got. And dare I say, this is probably my favorite party!
Since it is the middle of June in Houston, outside was not an option! I vowed at his 2nd birthday that I would NEVER make people suffer like that again. So I had to think of an activity that we could do indoors but wasn’t the same old Jumping Palace party that we get invited to weekly. I needed something different. So I decided that I would throw a batman painting party. Sounds odd? I know, but it was really awesome!!!
Here is the invite (it was a two sided 5×7 flat card):
And here is my take on a batman party:
A few details:
Each child left with a batman lunchbox that had a cape with a batman patch monogrammed with their name and a batman mask. We made the capes with a modified pattern that I downloaded from NickJr.
The picture on the table inspired the entire painting idea. Now it is hanging in the kids’ room.
The cupcake picks, banner & batman emblem cookies were made by my awesome friend Dawn. She rocks!!! (Follow her twitter feed at your own risk.)
The cake topper…yes I stole it out of Oliver’s toybox. HA!
One of the jars was filled with Hot Wheel Batmobiles because that is just how we roll.
My husband drew the batman logo on each canvas…it is hard to see in the pictures because it was a really light pencil mark. He didn’t complain even once. Let’s all give him a round of applause.
The girls were given the option of making a pink and black painting, the boys were only given yellow and black (mostly because I was afraid Oliver would actually make a pink painting).
Audrey is obviously more of an abstract artist.
I think the party was a total success. I’m pretty sure all of the kids had a great time!!
So now I have 6 months to get Audrey’s party pulled together. At the moment she is telling me (and anyone that will listen) that she wants a Joker or Power Ranger party…Uh, NO.
